Inquietude
Inquietude: (n) a state of being anxious or restless.
Raw. Bare. Tangled. Messy. Routine. Inquietude is knots of chaos strung into the tensions of eroded rock. Inquietude is an exploration of routine and complexities within the abstract perspective of the human experience. Repetition layers into impulsivity. An ongoing battle of solace and thoughts colliding into one another.
Open-faced metal casts reveal raw vulnerability, capturing moments of fleeting emotion frozen in time. Craters create tension within the knitted and crocheted pieces, intricate yet unraveling, mirror the intricate web of thoughts that weave through the mind. Knitted fibers reminiscent of a simpler time, knitting alongside loved ones, unknowing and unaware of trials that were obsolete to childhood. Fiber elements intertwine, reflecting the interconnectedness of anxieties and aspirations.
Rusted found objects, weathered by time and elements bring forth impulsive actions and process oriented explorations, while homemade paper pieces embody the fragility of existence, each sheet a testament to the impermanence of life's moments and underlying strength. The two worlds separate yet so similar.
Inquietude invites contemplation, challenging viewers to embrace aging discomfort and find solace within the chaos. Through this eclectic tangle of mediums, the exhibition serves as a reminder of the beauty found within the unease, and the transformative power of trusting the crazy process that we call life. Inquietude is on display from April 8 - 12, 2024. This exhibition is presented to the faculty of San Jose State University’s Department of Art and Art History in partial fulfillment of the Master’s of Fine Arts, Spatial Arts.
