Routine

In the rhythmic hub-bub that is our daily lives, routines emerge as anchors for each individual, whether we want them to or not. Routine, a solo exhibition by Chelsea Stewart. This collection invites viewers to explore the multifaceted nature of routine, recognizing its influence that we humans have on our engrained calendars.

Stewart, using mesmerizing mixed-media in "2D sculptures", literally intertwines the tangible and intangible aspects of routine. Embedding a fusion of paper, textiles, found objects, and acrylic paint, each piece serves as visual conduits. The exhibition unfurls as a diary of sorts, allowing Stewart to welcome us into the intimate spaces of routine – those grounding moments, and lack of control within our days. Through an impulsive and process-oriented approach, she navigates the intricate rawness inherent in the repetition of simple actions, highlighting both the comforting and discomforting predictability that routines offer.

Within the structured confines of routine, Stewart skillfully introduces an undercurrent of rebellion and metamorphosis. Routine encapsulates visual meditations on time, contemplating the evolving nature of weeks, from day to day and month to month. This exhibition will be on view from February 5th to the 9th in Gallery 5, with an opening reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday February 6th.
