Welcome!

Hello!

Welcome to my website! I have always been interested in the idea of curation. I think I have always been fascinated in the topic but didn’t really understand what curating was or that it was an actual career field until I was older. I have always been interested in art from a young age, and it's been something I have always wanted to pursue in some aspect, whether that be painting, being around art, collaborating with artists, hearing their stories, literally everything-but-the-kitchen-sink when it comes to the umbrella of “art”. It wasn’t until I took a Virtual Short Course Curatorial Workshop in the height of the pandemic back in 2021, hosted by the fabulous duo behind Stay Home Gallery, Pam Marlene Taylor and Kaylan Buteyn where I decided I want to take this route more seriously.

Overall, the word “curate” comes from the Latin term “curatus” which breaks down to the definition “to care for”. Through this lens, a lot of people could define themselves as a curator from what I have heard. I care about a lot of things, and I collect a lot of things, you’ll find this out all in good time. I am beginning my “journey” (god that sounds SO cliché) on intentionally collecting, and choosing, what I want to bring into my life. Whether that be art, or any other noun.

Another thing that I should mention is I am interested in the idea of plural practices. Virginia Broersma of The Artist’s Office notes “More and more artists are developing parallel practices that are complementary to their art-making and that also offer stable income and deeper engagement with their communities”. For those that don’t already know, I am currently pursuing my Masters in Fine Arts at San Jose State University for Spatial Arts. I am an interdisciplinary artist in papermaking and two-dimensional works. In the past three years I have been the role of a gallery manager, a nanny, a student, an artist, an amateur rock climber, a volunteer, and more. All of these titles have played a part in who I am as an artist and as a person. In my art practice, I combine the textures of the homemade paper with the globs of paint on surfaces, playing and experimenting with the processes and getting my hands messy. My work revolves around themes of mental health, childhood, narratives, and routine.

I have decided to expand myself into yet another role. My goal is to use this page to document art happenings I attend, talk about art that is meaningful to me, share my own tips and tricks in navigating the contemporary art world as I learn my way around it myself, promote artists that I admire, and grow my experience with art writing, and curate my own collections of art- mine and others. Thanks for reading!
